Act Now! Tell DOL to Not Upend Apprenticeship

The Department of Labor (DOL) is proposing a whole new set of mandates and reporting requirements that would negatively affect IEC contractors and chapters alike. Submit your comment today and tell DOL to abandon its proposed changes to the National Apprenticeship System. Comments to DOL are due on March 18 at 11:59 pm ET.

Court Strikes Down IEC-Oppposed Joint Employer Rule

A judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas vacated the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) most recent version of the joint employer rule late last week. The judged ruled that the rule, which was set to go into effect on Monday, March 11, would be “contrary to law” and “arbitrary and capricious.”  The new rule would have applied an indirect and potential control standard for determining joint employment, which is almost impossible to implement. It’s possible the NLRB could appeal the ruling.

IEC Named to Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship

In an announcement last week, the Department of Labor appointed IEC’s David Scott, Construction Industry Advocate with Encore Electric, to the next Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship. Mr. Scott is one of 30 members appointed to the ACA, which advises the Secretary of Labor on issues related to the national apprenticeship system. Scott will serve a two-year term, from 2024-206. Tim Oberg, former staffer with IEC Indy, served on the last edition of the ACA, which ran from 2021-2023.
