IEC Urges Withdrawal of Federal PLA Mandate

Last week, IEC submitted comments to the Federal Acquisition Regulatory (FAR) Council in response to a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) implementing President Biden’s Executive Order 14063 that requires the use of project labor agreements on federal construction contracts of $35 million or more in total value. IEC urged the FAR to withdraw the proposal completely since it discriminates against the vast majority of IEC’s merit shop electrical contractors and the 87% of the construction industry that chooses not to join a union. In its letter, IEC pointed out how this forces a merit shop contractor to, among other things, use union labor and apprentices, and harms small, minority- or women-owned firms. It is unclear just how long it will take for a final rule to be released, but it will likely be sometime next year at the earliest.

Greater Charlotte IEC

We are thrilled to announce the creation of our 52nd chapter, Greater Charlotte IEC. Our National Board President, Troy Corrigan, signed the letter granting them provisional chapter status last week and they were introduced at SPARK. We look forward to watching a wonderful and successful IEC Chapter have a positive impact on the electrical industry.
Framing the Future

Lennar, IEC, Pinellas County Schools, and others helped students bring classroom lessons to life at last week's "Framing the Future" event!
Students talked with IEC Apprentice Manager, Mark Kempton, about the apprentice program and had the opportunity to wire three-way switches under the supervision of Training Manager, Tony Adolph. Over 20 Workforce Agencies and Specialty Schools participated in the event. It allowed teachers, instructors, and trade partners the chance to learn about each program and how to fill specific employment needs, while making valuable connections to build the network of the future.

2023 Membership Application

As a reminder, the membership dues increase will take effect on January 1, 2023. The chart below reflects a 5.6% target increase (rounded to a divisible of 4). This represents a $12 per year increase for our smallest category of contractor members and a $300 per year increase for our largest contractor members. These rates will be reflected on the first quarter 2023 dues invoices to be sent in December 2022.
