Building a new IEC Chapter in Charlotte NC

There has been a great deal of interest in the development of a new IEC Chapter in the Charlotte area. To help the electrical contractors in that location better understand the value of IEC Membership and in starting their own chapter, we will be hosting a Meet & Greet in Charlotte on Thursday, September 15, starting at 4:00 PM (ET).

During the Meet & Greet, we will be reviewing the various ways that IEC can help companies with their workforce development needs, which includes finding new workers, training new electrical apprentices, developing their existing staff, and serving as their advocate for regulatory issues. By attending the upcoming IEC Meet & Greet, attendees will automatically be entered into a drawing for quality door prizes. Free drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be available as they network with local electrical contractors. Please reach out to any Electrical Contractors in the Charlotte area and encourage them to register and attend this FREE event.

Questions? Contact Walt Czyrnik, Vice President of Membership & Chapter Development at wczyrnik@ieci.org or 901-677-3007.

IEC Tells FHWA to Eliminate Training Requirements from EV Rule

This week, IEC submitted comments to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on a proposed rule for the roll out of electric vehicle chargers under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program that included training requirements for states to consider. The proposal states that only those electricians that have received certification from the union-run Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program or have graduated from a Registered Apprenticeship Program with electric vehicle supply equipment-specific training approved by both the Department of Labor and Transportation be eligible to install and service EV chargers. In its statement, IEC urged the FHWA to remove the training requirements because they are unnecessary since journeymen electricians already possess the essential knowledge and skills and they create a monopoly since no apprenticeship program meets the criteria.
