Republicans Sweep into Senate Majority - "Lame Duck" Session Underway

The GOP will hold, at a minimum, a 53-seat majority in the U.S. Senate when the 114th Congress is seated in January 2015. The majority could grow to 54 in the coming weeks, as incumbent Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu will face a runoff election in December.


IEC PRIDE PAC Supported Candidates in 2014 Election

One hundred percent of the 33 candidates that received PRIDE PAC support this election successfully won their elections on November 4. PRIDE PAC is IEC’s federal political action committee (PAC) and is funded entirely through voluntary personal donations from IEC members.


DOL Issues Final Rule Establishing Federal Contractor Minimum Wage

On October 1, the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Wage and Hour Division issued a final rule establishing a minimum wage of $10.10 for all federal contracted workers effective January 1, 2015. The rule applies to new contracts and renewals of expiring contracts with the federal government for construction covered by the Davis-Bacon Act (DBA). Any contract covered by the DBA and its implementing regulations is subject to the minimum wage requirement; however, contracts that are subject only to the Davis-Bacon Related Acts are exempt.


Republicans Gain Senate Control, Pick Up House Seats in Midterm Election

In what is being declared a “Republican wave,” GOP candidates swept key congressional races on November 4 to take control of the United States Senate and gain an additional 13 seats in the House of Representatives.
