Some States May Begin Enforcement of Silica Standard

In April, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced delaying enforcement of the crystalline silica standard as it applies to the construction industry to September 23, 2017. However, it’s still possible for some states to begin enforcement of the new standard beginning June 23, 2017.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, states may administer their own job safety and health programs if they meet minimum federal requirements. IEC recommends those members in OSHA-Approved State Plan states to check with their OSHA offices on how they plan to proceed with the new standard.
