Legislation Regulating Worker Centers Introduced

Legislation that would bring transparency to front groups acting on behalf of the labor unions that support them was recently introduced in Congress. Rep. Francis Rooney (R-Fla.) introduced the Accountability for Represented Workers Act (H.R.5665), which would force worker centers to follow the same reporting requirements as unions. In recent years, it’s become more common for unions to funnel employees’ dues money into worker centers, which, unlike unions, lack requirements to provide fair representation, have no limits on disorderly picketing, and don’t have regulated financial transparency.
