Budget Deal Includes Health Care Tax Relief

Congress’ short-term funding bill passed in January contained two tax provisions imposed by the Affordable Care Act. The bill delays the tax on high-cost health plans, commonly referred to as the “Cadillac Tax,” until 2022, and it suspends the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) (paid by health insurance companies) for 2019. The HIT, which is paid by health insurance companies but is ultimately passed on to their customers, remains in effect for 2018 for now.
