Ask Your Senators to Support Reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act

Posted in: Legislative Updates

As soon as today, the U.S. Senate will consider a bipartisan, bicameral legislative agreement to reauthorize and modernize the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), which provides funding and programs that are integral to the education and training of the next generation of highly skilled electrical workers.
A number of IEC chapters currently receive funding through several key workforce development programs that have helped them to train more than 7,000 apprentices per year. The "Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act" (WIOA) not only reauthorizes WIA but also strengthens and improves it to meet current workforce needs.
Reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act is a *KEY POLICY PRIORITY* for IEC in the 113th Congress and was a cornerstone of our 2014 IEC National Legislative Conference. IEC members enthusiastically advocated for a compromise to be reached between House and Senate leaders on their respective reauthorization bills with a deal announced the day our members took to Capitol Hill in support of workforce investment.
