Administration Publishes Association Retirement Plan Rule

On October 23, 2018, the Department of Labor (DOL) published proposed rules in the Federal Register that seek to make it easier for small businesses to form association retirement plans. The proposal seeks to clarify the circumstances under which an employer group, association, or professional employer organization (PEO) may sponsor a workplace retirement plan. Many of the components of the proposed rule are similar to those found in the association health plan (AHP) rule, with the possibility of making it easier for entities that form an AHP to also establish retirement plans.
