Chapter of the Year

The Chapter of the Year Award recognizes chapters that have provided their members with exemplary member service and have made efforts to grow over the past year. Applicants must write an essay (750-word maximum) that explains why the chapter deserves the Chapter of the Year Award. 

Category A
– up to 30 contractor members
Category B – 31 to 60 contractor members
Category C – 61 to 89 contractor members
Category D – 90 plus contractors members

Chapters will be judged based on the following criteria:
• What was your membership and apprenticeship growth?
• Do you have an active board and committees?
• Percentage of growth.
• Innovation and initiatives.
• What added benefits were implemented?
• Retention year to year.
• Community outreach.
• What new programs have you put in place?
• Up to three testimonials from contractor members. (What has your chapter done for you?)
 


Instructor of the Year

The Instructor of the Year Award recognizes an IEC instructor who possesses creativity, a positive attitude, and the ability to transfer knowledge through excellent communication skills and innovative teaching methods. The winner will best embody the merit shop ideals through superior effort and talent as recognized by others. Nominees for the Instructor of the Year Award must teach the IEC curriculum at an IEC chapter in good standing or chapter training affiliate. Please include high-resolution JPEG (.jpg) photos of the instructor interacting in classrooms, labs, or with students.

Instructors will be judged based on the following criteria:
• Provide three to five photos.
• What innovative teaching methods are used?
• Three testimonials from students and/or peers.
• Tenure.
• What percentage of students passed this year?
• What is your retention rate year to year?
• What are your credentials? Certifications?
• Do you participate in national advancement training? Please list.
• Resume.


Chapter Executive Director of the Year

The Chapter Executive Director of the Year Award recognizes an IEC chapter executive director who has exhibited outstanding leadership, accomplishments, and service during the past year. Any IEC chapter executive director is eligible to be nominated for this award.

The Chapter Executive Director of the Year will be awarded in three categories based on size:
Category A – 1-30 contractor members
Category B – 31-59 contractor members
Category C – 60+ contractor members

Nominees will be judged based on the following criteria:
• Working with other chapters to develop shared resources.
• Legislative activities and programs.
• Regularly published communications for members.
• Helping other chapters or IEC National grow.
• Percentage of membership growth from the previous year.
• Chapter educational programs.
• Participation at IEC National meetings or on committees.
• Working with other chapters & IEC National
for the benefit of the association.
• Public relations activities.
• Submission of three contractor member reference letters.
• Peer recommendation from two other Executive Directors.



Legislative Chapter of the Year


The Legislative Chapter of the Year Award recognizes an IEC chapter that has made significant strides in achieving IEC’s legislative goals by pursuing legislative and regulatory initiatives that seek to promote and support the merit shop philosophy.


The Legislative Chapter of the Year will be awarded in three categories based on size:
Category A – 1-30 contractor members
Category B – 31-59 contractor members
Category C – 60+ contractor members


Nominees will be judged based on the following criteria:
• Working with other chapters and/or other associations/organizations in coalition, sharing resources.
• Legislative activities and programs.
• Regularly published legislative and regulatory communications for members (quarterly minimum).
+ List up to three advocacy efforts launched within the last 12 months. Provide examples of how success was demonstrated. What sort of leadership role was taken within a coalition (if applicable)?
+ Local PAC established.
• Submission of three contractor member reference letters.
