IEC Comments on Paid Sick Leave Rule for Federal Contractors
Posted in: Legislative Updates
In April, IEC submitted comments to the Department of Labor (DOL) on a proposed rule that implements President Obama’s Executive Order 13706 (EO 13706). Issued in September, EO 13706 mandates that workers on federal contracts be permitted to accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 56 hours (equal to seven days) a year. IEC urged the DOL to reconsider implementation of the proposed rule due to the negative impact the rules could have on small electrical contractors.
