House Committee Holds Hearing on Closing the Skills Gap

Posted in: Capital Watch

The House Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development held a hearing titled, “Closing the Skills Gap: Private Sector Solutions for America's Workforce.” The hearing focused on areas where the private sector is working to close this gap and provide appropriate skills. The discussion also centered on the disconnect between the needs of the business community and the skills provided by the education system. IEC provided a statement for the record on its registered apprenticeship program and how government policies restrict the industry’s ability to expose more individuals to electrical contracting and inhibits ability to hire more apprentices.
