Denier Electric: Mercy West Medical Campus

Denier-Mercy_14.gifDenier Electric was recognized for its work with Mercy Health Systems, which had a vision of bringing world class healthcare to the west side of Cincinnati, Ohio. This vision included the latest developments in hospital design to enhance the patient’s experience. From this vision, Mercy West Medical Campus was born, sitting on 60 acres and includes a 250-bed hospital, 5-story medical office building, a boulevard entrance, and a freestanding two-level parking garage.

The design of the main hospital includes single utility feed and 100 percent generator backup of electrical systems. The electrical scope includes: 600A, 15KV Class Primary Service; (4) 2,500KVA sub-stations tied by a bus duct in main-tie-main configurations; emergency power system; power distribution system consisting of a complete conduit and wire installation; 150HP electric fire pump; UL master labeled lightning protection, including a counterpoise grounding loop; installation of all pathways for low voltage systems installation; fire alarm system; and a glycol snowmelt system.

Main Site.jpgTo exceed the customer’s expectation, the original construction schedule was reduced by a year. To accomplish this goal, multiple building trades had to work together in a coordinated prefabrication effort. A plan was developed to design and build a prefabricated corridor rack system offsite to be installed once the build shell was complete. This rack system would include electrical, mechanical, plumbing, life safety, and communication systems. The building trades worked together to develop BIM models using software for the design of each segment and clash detection software to resolve all routing and spacing issues. From these models, each segment of rack system was constructed in an offsite warehouse. As the building shell construction progressed, sections of the rack system were shipped and installed at the construction project. The complete project-wide prefabrication effort succeeded in meeting the challenges of the reduced construction schedule.

With the completion of the Mercy West Medical Campus, Denier Electric surpassed all the owner’s expectations and completed the project on time and within budget.
