IEC Instructor Training & Certification Program
IEC's Instructor Training and Certification Program is tailored to enhance the knowledge of instructors at IEC chapters throughout the U.S. This program addresses a new rule from the U.S. Department of Labor, which requires instructors to be trained.
The Instructor Training and Certification Program is a media-rich experience that teaches IEC’s philosophy, apprenticeship, IEC curriculum resources, and instructional methods through video and interactive activities. The three-level program is designed maximize each instructors growth through building on skills taught in the previous lessons. All instructors must have at least a year of teaching between each level, providing an opportunity to implement the skills they've learned in each level.
Level I – Initial Phase: Level I features IEC instructors and chapter staffs throughout the course illustrating proper teaching technique of the IEC curriculum. In order to receive a certificate for Level I, instructor-candidates must complete all five units of instruction in this phase: IEC and Apprenticeship, Instructor and Student Roles, IEC Curriculum, Lesson Planning, and Engaging Student. Learn more about IEC Instructor Training Level I.
Level II – Excellence Phase: Level II provides instructors with hands-on training in developing and implementing a lesson plan, as well as constructive criticism from IEC teaching professionals. Level II is divided into three separate parts (LMS Modules, Video Submission, and Endorsement) and all must be completed before becoming Level II certified. The 5 units of instruction in Level II focus on the 5 L's (Learning, Labeling, Lecturing, Leading, and Leveling). Learn more about IEC Instructor Training Level II.
Level III – Collaborative Phase: Level III takes a giant departure away from Levels I and II and will have the instructors mentor other instructors. Level III provides excellent hands-on experience, along with valuable feedback from colleagues and mentees.
The IEC Instructor Training and Certification Program is an exciting initiative, and represents IEC's continuing commitment to providing the highest quality training for all IEC apprentices.

"This training made me realize that I am not the only instructor that encounters difficulties in the classroom. It has given me more confidence with making decisions and instructing students with different levels of ability."
