The Hamilton Crowne Plaza in Washington, D.C. was the site of the 2010 IEC National Legislative Fly-In. More than 100 IEC participants from across the country took this opportunity to join their peers and speak with their Members of Congress on important issues such as the new OSHA and ergonomics regulations; mandates to provide paid sick leave for all employees; Project Labor Agreements; blacklisting; and more.
IEC Hosts Annual Day at Capitol Hill
On the most important day of the conference, Fly-In attendees went to Capitol Hill to work together as advocates for their industry. Exercising their First Amendment right to petition the government, attendees spoke directly to decision-makers on the Hill. This was an invaluable opportunity to explain issues, such as the Employee Free Choice Act and the Green Jobs Improvement Act, while also illustrating the impact that they have on small businesses struggling to operate in a difficult economy. Leaders in Washington needed to hear from directly from you about the impact that their legislation can have on your business.
Special Session: The Green Movement and Its Impact on the Electrical Construction Marketplace
Presented by William Prado, this special session examined the green building movement and the impact it is having on the electrical contracting industry.
Supporting IEC’s Political Efforts – Always a Big Hit
IEC members were enthusiastic in their support of IEC’s political efforts. The Political Education Fund (PEF) hosted a fun and casual evening tour of the monuments in Washington, D.C. including the Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lincoln Memorials. The Political Action Committee (PAC) hosted a fundraising dinner at one of D.C.’s premier restaurants, with special guest Congressman John Kline (R-MN), a vocal champion of free enterprise.
