2010 IEC LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

The MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada was the site of the 2010 IEC National Leadership Conference.  Nearly 175 IEC participants from across the country were in attendance at the electrical industry’s leading business and educational conference.

IEC Kicks Off National Leadership Institute

During the 2010 IEC National Leadership Conference, IEC kicked off the Leadership Institute, an opportunity for volunteer leaders to receive leadership training that can be used to create success in both IEC chapters and member businesses.

“The Institute has been developed as a result of requests by both members and chapter executive directors for more leadership development,” said Larry Mullins, IEC National Executive Vice President/CEO. “This is a significant part of IEC’s strategic plan and the ultimate goal is to create successful member companies and therefore a stronger IEC.”

The Institute will continue throughout the year with a series of educational opportunities, webinars, conference calls, newsletters, and in-person training. It will also offer training to participate in a leadership position on the chapter, regional and/or national level of IEC; ideas to improve leadership skills and abilities; knowledge that will help increase productivity and much more.

Special Sessions Improve the Way You Do Business

This year's conference featured a special session on Building Information Modeling (BIM) by Stephen A. Jones, Senior Director, McGraw-Hill Construction. Exciting new technology solutions such as BIM are dramatically changing how all project participants work together to build better facilities faster and with fewer cost and schedule overruns. Attendees learned how this new technology is impacting everything from contracts, fees, liability and staffing, to design, product selection, fabrication, assembly, turnover and operations.

Other conference sessions featured topics such as Managing Yourself, Leading Volunteers and Advancing the Profession. In these sessions, attendees learned about their individual communication and work style, examined typical volunteer situations and learned how to effectively anticipate emerging member needs.

Networking – Always a Big Hit

In a show of their constant support for IEC, the Platinum Partners threw a great reception. The evening was filled with fun, food, games, and a great time was had by all.  In addition, the IEC Political Action Committee hosted a thrilling “CSI Experience” event.
