IEC is actively engaged in shaping codes and standards for electricians.
Through the national Codes & Standards Committee, IEC is able to become directly involved in a large variety of codes and standards activities, such as having two members sit on the 19 panels of the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) 70 National Electrical Code (NEC). IEC works closely with the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) to develop the NEC. IEC also participates in the development of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and reviews standards created by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL).
Participation on these panels directly impacts the electrical industry.
